✨ Psychedelic is finished! ✨

After all the dyeing, winding, threading, weaving, hemstitching, fringe twisting and finishing… here she is! 🩵💜🩷

‘Psychedelic’ is woven entirely in fine silk that I hand dyed specifically for this scarf. The deep blues and teals weave through pinks, violets and warmer coral tones, creating a pattern that seems to shift and change depending on how the light catches it.

The weave is a Corris effect, closely based on a design published by Margaret Coe and Amy Norris, who developed this fascinating technique. I’ve interpreted their design through my own colour palette and hand-dyed silks — and I absolutely love the result.

The first photograph probably shows it best: once it’s draped and wrapped, the silk catches the light and all those colours and patterns suddenly come alive. ✨

And the second shows the full scarf laid out, where you can really see the wonderful rhythmic pattern running throughout the weave.

At approximately 182cm × 37cm, plus hand-twisted tassels, it’s generously sized, beautifully soft and has that gorgeous fluid drape that only silk seems to have.

And, because all those colours were hand dyed, there will never be another one quite like it. 🥰

This is always one of my favourite moments — unwinding the cloth beam and seeing the whole scarf for the very first time.

When you’re weaving, so much of the finished cloth is wound away around the beam, so you never really know quite how it’s all going to look until this moment.

And with this Corris-effect weave, using silk I hand dyed especially for the project, I’ve been particularly impatient to see it all together!

I think I’m rather in love with this one… 🥰

Next job: twisting all those fringes, then washing and finishing it — and that’s when the silk really comes to life. ✨

A little bit of slow, satisfying weaving for your Monday… 🧡🩵💜

I’m hemstitching my latest hand-dyed silk scarf, ‘Psychedelic’, fresh off the loom.

There’s something rather mesmerising about this final stage — stitch by stitch, securing the edge before I can cut it free from the loom and finally see the whole scarf properly! ✂️✨

This one is woven in a Corris-effect design, using silk that I hand dyed especially for the project, and the colours and iridescence have been such a joy to watch develop as I’ve woven.

Nearly there… then comes the finishing and that all-important first wash! 🥰

Our resident sparrowhawk is becoming just a little too confident! 😳🦅

Over the past few weeks we’ve had several lightning-fast “raids” on the little songbirds visiting our feeders — but today he seems to have decided there’s absolutely no need for all that cloak-and-dagger stuff anymore!

Malc managed to walk right up surprisingly close to him and take these photos. Eventually he flew off…

…all of about 10 feet to the fence. 😂

Clearly he’s decided this is his garden now and we’re merely the catering staff!

Magnificent to see him so close — although I suspect our sparrows, tits and finches may have a rather different opinion! 😬

A few days ago I shared a little reel of me threading my Louët Spring loom… and now the weaving has begun! ✨

This is my “Psychedelic” hand-dyed silk scarf, woven in the beautiful Corris weave structure, and I’m completely captivated by it already. 💙💜🩷

One of the things I love most about this design is how the iridescence and pattern seem to play hide and seek. As I’m weaving, it looks quite subtle, but then I catch it from an angle and suddenly the cloth comes alive with shimmering colour and texture. It’s pure weaving magic! ✨

I’ve only just started this scarf, so there’s still plenty to weave… but I can’t wait to see it come off the loom. 😊

There’s something rather magical about watching threads slowly become cloth… ✨

A little behind-the-scenes glimpse from my weaving studio this morning. The close-up video shows me threading the loom – carefully passing each individual thread through a heddle, one by one. It’s a slow, meticulous process, but every beautiful piece of handwoven cloth starts right here.

It’s one of those parts of weaving that many people never get to see, and I still find it incredibly satisfying.

✨ A little sneak peek at a new way I’m presenting my handwoven scarves… ✨

I’ve been experimenting with gift packaging, and I have to admit, I’m rather smitten with this! 💕

Each of my scarves is individually handwoven, and many are also hand dyed, so I wanted the unwrapping experience to feel just as special as the textile inside.

These beautiful presentation boxes won’t be around for much longer, as I’ll soon be moving to boxes with a clear cellophane lid. But I think this style of finishing – with the gorgeous ribbon, handmade dried flower posy and wax seal – will continue to make every scarf feel like a truly memorable gift.

Now… I won’t lie… putting these together isn’t exactly a 30-second job! 🤣 I may have found myself channelling “Love Actually” and wondering if I’ve become Rowan Atkinson’s long-lost gift-wrapping apprentice! Every bow, flower and wax seal takes a little time… but I think it’s worth it for that moment when someone opens a truly special gift. 🎁✨

Handwoven from nine beautiful colours of fine 60/2 mulberry silk, this luxurious scarf is woven using a double weave two-block design, creating an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colour. As the warp and weft interact, every section reveals new colour combinations, and because it’s double weave, each side has its own unique pattern and character.
Measuring a generous 15½” x 73½”, it’s wonderfully soft, lightweight and full of movement—a true one-of-a-kind piece, woven entirely by hand in my Surrey Hills studio.

A productive (and rather warm!) afternoon in the dye kitchen! 🥰🧶

I’ve been dyeing the next batch of 30/2 spun silk for my next Echo Weave project, which is going to be called “Psychedelic”. 🌈✨

This warp will also include a gorgeous teal that I dyed previously, and I can’t wait to see all the colours interacting once they’re woven together.

With the temperatures we’ve been having here in Surrey, I had to wait until things cooled down a little before tackling the acid dyes… although it still got pretty toasty in the kitchen! 🔥😅

I’m especially pleased with my first attempt at dyeing the black for the weft. I honestly didn’t expect it to come out quite so deep and intense, but I’m absolutely delighted with the result! 🖤

As always, I’ve made plenty of notes ready for future dye runs (because every batch teaches me something new! 😁).

Now comes the exciting part… winding the warp and dressing my Louët Spring II. I can’t wait to see Psychedelic start to come to life! 🥰🥰

Work in progress… 🩷

This lovely raspberry-and-silver-grey tea towel is one of a small commissioned set for a couple’s kitchen. They chose the raspberry as a joyful pop of colour against their mainly grey room, inspired by a beautiful ceramic bowl in a very similar shade.

They’re taking a little longer than planned to weave and finish — this hot weather has turned my tiny studio into rather more of a sauna than a weaving room! 🥵 But I think that bright raspberry is worth the wait.

Fresh off the loom ✨

My latest handwoven silk scarf has been a glorious colour adventure from start to finish. Woven in incredibly fine 60/2 spun silk, it combines nine different colours in a block doubleweave draft, creating little splashes, stripes and shifting geometric patterns throughout.

One of the joys of this weave is that it reveals something slightly different on each side — a proper two-for-one scarf, with colour and pattern changing as it moves and drapes.

It’s generously long and wide, beautifully light in the hand, and finished with hand-twisted fringes. A bright, joyful piece of wearable weaving… and one that took rather a lot of threads to keep track of! 🌈

So, yesterday evening , with my dear friend Cas @woven.cobweb , we were outside @newashgate demonstrating and teaching visitors all about weaving silk!
Today, I had a “taster session” booked for 2 people for 2 hours!!
Just 2 looms suitable for this course, so I had a challenge- I had to finish the silk scarf that I’d been demonstrating with, and replace it with a lovely colourful cotton warp suitable for someone to have a play with for a couple of hours and then take away with them..
Up at 6:30am, to finish the scarf and redress the loom! An hour to finish the scarf and get it off the loom, and then 3 hours to re-dress the loom ready for my enthusiastic participants! Arriving at 2pm..( I did get time for multiple cups of tea - yes I’m British!! Plus some breakfast at 1pm.. )

Such a lovely evening at @newashgategallery in Farnham yesterday, demonstrating silk weaving with Cas @woven.cobweb during the preview evening launching their summer exhibitions.

It was brilliant to chat with so many people about the magic of weaving — from the fine silk threads on the loom to the slow, rhythmic process of cloth gradually appearing before your eyes. Silk weaving is now on the Heritage Crafts Red List as an endangered craft, so it felt especially meaningful to be sharing it in action.

We were also delighted to spot our own silk scarves included in the Heritage Crafts exhibition inside, alongside beautiful work by @carolynwallis. silkweaver Do pop in and have a look if you’re nearby — the exhibitions are running throughout the summer.

A lovely day today delivering a few of my handwoven silk scarves to @newashgate for their upcoming Heritage Crafts Exhibition.

Each scarf has been woven by hand, and most of the silk has been hand-dyed by me too, so it’s always special to see them heading off to be part of an exhibition celebrating traditional craft skills.

From threads of four colours, an echo emerged…
now softened by water, bloom, and touch.

This silk scarf has finally been wet finished — the weave settling into itself, the colours deepening and dancing together in new ways. Every fringe has been hand twisted, one by one, a quiet ritual to complete the cloth.

I love how the echoweave structure catches the light differently with every fold — flashes of turquoise, ember red, deep ocean blue, and coral appearing and disappearing like memory.

A scarf woven slowly, finished patiently, and ready at last to be worn into the world. ✨

Nine colours of extra fine silk ✨
Over 1,000 warp threads wound and ready for the loom… and I’m about to attempt my very first 2-block double weave scarf.

Equal parts excitement and “what have I got myself into?” 😅
This warp has been months in the imagining — layers of colour shifting through turquoise, cobalt, magenta, gold and violet, all waiting to reveal themselves once woven together.

Double weave means weaving two layers of cloth at once, so there are a lot of threads to keep happy. But that’s part of the magic — and the challenge.

Four colours in echo weave, slowly finding their rhythm in fine silk.
As the shuttle flies, the cloth shimmers and shifts — turquoise becoming violet, coral dissolving into rose — every thread catching the light a little differently.
This scarf began long before it reached the loom:
in skeins of silk hand-dyed in five luminous colours,
in the careful winding of the warp,
the quiet threading of heddles,
and the steady music of weaving itself.
Today I hope to cut it from the loom, wet finish it, and hand twist the fringes — the final gentle rituals before the silk truly comes alive.
There is something deeply satisfying in every stage of this process.

Finally weaving ✨

After a couple of slower, gentle days spent dressing the loom, the cloth is beginning to come to life. Threading the heddles is such an important stage — every thread plays its part in creating the final pattern.

This piece is a 4-colour echoweave design, with an additional colour running through the weft, creating all those shimmering shifts as the pattern begins to emerge 💙🩷💚💜

The yarns are all fine silk, hand dyed by me, which makes the weaving process feel even more special. I hand dyed this silk yarn in four separate colourways, then carefully wound the warp to bring them all together for my next 4 colour echoweave silk scarf. There’s always a moment when the dyed threads are finally lined up side by side and the colours start “talking” to each other — that’s when the magic begins.

Now the warp is ready, and next step is dressing the loom. I can already imagine the shimmer and colour play echoweave creates in silk ✨

Based in Frensham, near Farnham, my cosy studio is where my weaving journey began in 2016. I quickly fell in love with the craft, and ever since I’ve been creating beautifully made, high-quality textiles inspired by colour, texture, and tradition.

I specialise in handwoven silk scarves, alongside a range of unique pieces for the home—each one thoughtfully designed and carefully made.

In 2026, I’m continuing to offer small, relaxed taster sessions for up to two people. Spend an hour or two learning the basics of multi-shaft handweaving, and take home something you’ve created yourself.

Since I started to weave I have become fully engrossed in the artistry and creativity of this wonderful traditional craft. I love to share what I have learnt and I am always continuing to learn myself!

Working with Louet enables me to offer premium weaving equipment which I am proud to be associated with.

I continue to take part in local fairs where I demonstrate the craft and sell my handwoven items, as well as promoting handweaving by running small workshops for a maximum of 3 participants at a time.
